Aai, What should I become?
Radha : Aai, I want to become a designer.
Me : Oh come on Radha! Just a few days back you wanted to become a doctor. And now a designer. Your wish keeps changing every week, huh?
Radha: No. I now want to become a designer and that’s final.
Me: Are you sure or pretty sure? Because just in the last month you wanted to become an ornithologist..
Radha: No. Its designer now. And it’s final.
Me: Okay. That’s great then.
Radha: Aai, what do you think? Who should I become?
Me: It’s your wish. You should become what you desire to be, what you really like. You should do it from your heart and give it your best. We will always be with you. And remember one thing, excellence is extremely important, no matter what you do.
Radha: But Aai, still my question remains. Who do you think I should become?
Me: Well, My answer would be Radha, that you should become ‘happy.’
Radha: Now what does that exactly mean?
Me: See my dear girl, education, degrees, qualifications, job will all take its own course with time. But amidst all this hustle bustle we forget to become ‘happy.’ Let that not happen to you.
Radha: I still don’t understand.
Me: Okay. Let me explain. Remember, you planted a Jamun tree a few days back in our backyard? Watch how it will slowly come to life, how it will grow, how it will bloom. Enjoy the whole process. Don’t keep thinking when it will have fruits.
Radha: I understand Aai, but you still haven’t suggested me which profession should I choose.
Me: You know what I think Radha, many parents tell their children what to become in their lives, but few parents tell them to become happy in their lives. According to me, one of the primary aim of your life should be to be happy and satisfied.
Radha: I think I understand you now. And you know very well that I am verrry happy today.
Me: Oh yes I know that you are very happy today since you received a state level scholarship today. Congratulations!
Radha: Thank you Aai. Let me call Arya now.
Me: Arya? Why?
Radha: Aai, let me tell her, receiving scholarship was a great achievement but studying for that exam especially the Intelligence test was way more fun. The process was much more enjoyable than the result. It made us ‘happy’, you see.
Me: Oh I see. What I think Radha is that you should better become a teacher. You can teach (me too) so well!
